Welcome back to our transformative journey. In our last blog, Reflect and Transform: Embrace the Mirror Concept for True Growth, we explored the powerful Mirror Concept. Today, we delve into another crucial aspect of self-mastery: Emotional Mastery.
Why Emotional Mastery is So Important:
Mastering emotions and building emotional resilience are critical concepts in my approach. When people come to me, I often see that their emotions are guiding and controlling them. They feel anxious, stuck, fearful, frustrated, angry, sad, or a range of other emotions. They usually seek solutions to their emotions without addressing the root cause.
The Root Cause:
There's often one underlying pattern running their whole life, like outdated software on a laptop. Think of your body as the laptop, the power cord as your life force, and the software as the pattern driving your existence. Most people operate from outdated software - let’s call it Microsoft -100. They can never reach the full potential of their current capabilities unless they update this software.
This outdated software governs and drives your mind, which then shapes your thoughts and beliefs, which then influence your habits, and finally, manifest as emotions. Emotions are the last to manifest, meaning solving for emotions alone will only partially address the issue. We need to tackle the root pattern running our lives.
The Role of Emotions:
Emotions are intense and often hard to look beyond. They can dominate our perception, making it challenging to observe the true underlying issues. This is why mastering emotions and emotional release techniques are incredibly important.
Steps to Emotional Mastery:
- Identify the Emotion: recognise and acknowledge your emotions as they arise. This is the first step in understanding what is driving them.
- Locate the Emotion in Your Body: Connect the emotion to a physical sensation in your body. This helps in grounding the experience and understanding its impact on your physical state.
- Accept the Emotion: Embrace the reality of the emotion without trying to change or control it. Acceptance is key to gaining clarity and beginning the process of release.
- Release the Emotion: Use deep breathing and visualisation techniques to let go of the emotion. This helps in clearing the immediate emotional response and prepares you for deeper introspection.
- Deep Self-Enquiry: After releasing the emotion, revisit the trigger situation with a clearer perspective. Ask yourself probing questions like 'Why is this an issue for me?' or 'What within me is causing this reaction?'
- Transform the Core Pattern: Identify the core pattern driving the emotion. By addressing and transforming this underlying pattern, you can create lasting change in your emotional responses.
Case Study/Example:
Imagine you often feel abandoned or lonely, especially in social situations. Through emotional mastery, you recognise that this recurring feeling might be reflecting a deeper belief or pattern of abandonment. Instead of just trying to feel better in the moment, you look within and realise this pattern stems from past experiences where you felt left out or neglected. By acknowledging this and working to transform these beliefs, you start reaching out to others, engaging in meaningful conversations, and building deeper connections. As a result, your social interactions improve, and you no longer feel abandoned or lonely. This internal shift leads to a more connected and fulfilling social life.
How Emotional Mastery is Transformational:
By mastering our emotions, we can step back and observe what's truly driving our lives and why certain situations keep recurring. Emotional mastery allows us to delete outdated patterns and replace them with ones that serve our highest potential. It's not just about feeling better—it's about gaining control over your life, breaking free from old patterns, and creating the life you truly want.
I encourage you to start practising emotional mastery in your daily life. Observe your emotions, locate them in your body, accept and release them, and then delve deeper to understand and transform the underlying patterns.
Stay tuned for our next blog, where we will explore the concept of transforming limiting patterns in more detail.
